As we are starting summer, many of us carry the baggage of winter in our homes. Heavy dark clutter has no business travelling with us on our journey through summer 2019.
Our emotions are closely linked to how we live. So what do you want for yourself? A light, organized house or one filled with every tchotchke that we have collected over the years?
4 simple decluttering rules.
1. If you haven’t used it in the last six months you probably don’t need it.
2. Pick a part of your home that you want to make your own. Even if it’s a small corner. Make it yours. Beautify it. Put a relaxing chair, maybe a side table and surround it with beautiful things. Things that relax you and a place that can be your very own sanctuary. A candle. A lamp. Some incense. Even if for a few minutes a day.
3. Pick out 3 of your most favourite and 3 of your least favourite things in your house. How do they make you feel? The favourite items probably make you feel good and happy. How about the not so good items. Stressed? Anxious? Write a list of 3 items that you will dispose of / donate every week. Don’t be afraid to group like items together and count them as one! Until you are left with only the good things.
4. Create a gratitude journal of all the things you are grateful for. How many material items are on the list? Are old shoes and dresses from 10 years ago on the list? Probably not. Donate/ Dispose.
So this is your task for the next 2 weeks. Let this be the start of your summer. And a more relaxed, decluttered, destressed you. No distress! Destress.
